The mounting ring attaches directly to the lens, the hood snaps onto the ring which also provides access to both the original 37mm filter threads as well as larger 52mm filter threads. The hood is detachable from the mounting ring and reversible for storage, leaving any filters and caps in place on the lens regardless of the hood orientation. This allows you to use the original Olympus lens cap or the larger lens cap included in the kit as well as leaving protection filters in place no matter which way the hood is attached. Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.     Wonderful Hood! Get it!
    Great product! Works without vinnetting and the ability to use the original or larger threads with filters is a big plus! You can also use either the cap this comes with or the one that comes with your lense. I am using this hood on my Panasonic LUMIX 12-23mm G Vario lense that came stock with my Panasonic GX85.Pros: Fits and threads easily. The base is black aluminum, while the detachable/reversible hood is black plastic with metal bearings for easily clicking it on and off the plate. You can also spin the hood 360 degrees to position it where you need it to block light from flaring across your lense. There is no vinnetting at 12mm and the 52mm threaded ring is nice to have if you want to stack filters without causing vinnetting. It was a well thought out design for an aftermarket hood. Panasonic should have thought of this.Cons: it is wide enough that it does sit lower than my cameras base, but not really a problem unless you want to sit the camera flat on a table and take pictures. I always keep a quick tripod plate on my camera, so that thickness takes care of the wider hood then camera body concern for me. I also have a leather half case on my camera and with this and the extra thickness this adds to the cameras bottom it sits perfectly, even without my tripod quick plate.Pictures attached.

    The product fits on my Olympus M. Zuiko 14-42mm lens. although one thing to note is that the hood tends to be a little bulky especially if you store your camera in one of those small cases made for the Olympus camera line. Material looks sturdy, does not look of feel cheap. Definitely useful, and a great value at the price it retails for.

    Looks good on the lens!
    I love the way the lens looks with this lens hood on! The fact that it is reversible is a plus. Does a good job at keeping sun flares out of your pictures. I like that you can use filters with the hood. If you are clumsy and bump your lens in to things, this will definitely protect your glass. I highly recommend this hood.

    Very good lens shade for the Olympus 14-42mm EZ
    This lens shade is a nice, handy design. It fits and does what it’s supposed to do. Inclusion of filter threads and reversibility of the shade make it especially handy. Its size and shallowness are made necessary by the wideangle capability of the 14-42mm lens. Expect it to do better at avoiding contrast drops and specular-light streaks from light coming in at an angle than for flare control when the sun or other light source is head on or near to that. All in all, a good item at a fair price.

    Nice pop off feature
    It has a real interesting feature that I didn’t know about … the hood pops right off the thread plate because it is held in place with spring loaded steel balls. Also, because it is so large in diameter, the lens cap is easy to remove. I am concerned however that the diameter is so large that it might not fulfill its purpose (to block unwanted light) in some cases.
