Incredible street photography lens
Extremely small lens with great sharpness and speed. It might be the perfect âwalk aroundâ lense for street photography (imho) if you want stealth, light and ease of use.The âclutchâ ( pulling the ring back) automatically puts the camera into manual focus ( Olympus).. and give me incredible composition flexibility. Btw once you use it… youâll be wondering what isnât like this on all lenses. The hood doesnât come with it, and I should have added it. Another discovery, itâs how small it is on the Olympus OMD 1mkii body.. which IIS a good thing but, coming from the canon slr world, Iâm use to having a B.A.L. ( big @xx lens)..Iâll get used to itð.Itâs not weather sealed and because it so fast F1.8 ( for m4/3). I recommend an polorizer and or a ND filter. For this s hi noon conditions. Other than that , donât hesitate and get this Lens. I have the silver version.

Great lens
Used this lens extensively over the holidays in all sorts of conditions; Inside/Dim, Outside/Bright, Outside/Dusk, etc.Pros:- Great image quality, 100% crops are very sharp at low ISOs. None of the softness some reviews talk about- AF is super fast, even in darker rooms- FOV on m4/3s is perfect for small indoor rooms or larger group shots outside- Small and light. I can fit this lens + OMD-EM5 into my jacket pocket- Manual focus mode. Makes dark shots possible without the AF hunting foreverCons:- Doesn’t have a very helpful distance scale on MF modeVery pleased with this lens and generally take it out over the Panasonic 25mm f/1.4 because of it’s size. The depth of field is also acceptably shallow to let your subjects pop. I worried at 17mm there wouldn’t be enough background blur. There isn’t as much as the 25 1.4 but that turns out to be an asset in a dark room with people at different depths.

Fantastic! Absolutely Fantastic!
So I recently made the switch from DSLR to micro 4/3. Cannot express how happy I am with that decision. The stock lens is great but it fails me in darker settings. So after some careful research, I went with this lens. I needed a big eye and this glass certainly delivers.1. BuildThis lens is made of some quality stuff. The weight feels great in hand but it does not add anything to the camera itself. The only area where there may be some concern is the focus ring. When switching from manual to auto, there is some definite wobble. I personally have not had trouble with it but it is there.2. GlassThe pictures are tack sharp. I cannot state that enough. The center as well as the corners of the pictures are sharp and distortion is kept at a minimal. Chromatic aberration is little to none.3. SpeedThis lens is fast. Auto focus is near instantaneous and has really helped to get those shots. So in conclusion, I am obviously in favor of this lens. I checked the other options available in this class and I am sure they are all great options as well but I am glad I went with this one.

Excellent for street shooting — especially at night
A good choice for a walk-about lens that can stay on the camera. It is fast focusing and produces good quality images. I would suggest a 4x, or even an 8x, ND filter for daytime shooting when a shallow DOF is desired.I prefer the versatility of a zoom lens when shooting during daylight. But, when the light gets dim and when shooting indoors, this little lens fits the bill. It is a gem.At $449.00, I consider it about $100.00 overpriced, but the price is set by the supply and demand rather than by production cost. And, there is the R&D expense to recoup. Yet, I consider it a decent value and would buy it again. What I don’t like is that Olympus decided to soak the customer by omitting a lens hood and then charging a insane price for such accessories ($63.00 for the little lens hood as of 28 April, 2013). Olympus gets to do so because the market allows it to do so. So, look for alternatives when shopping for a lens hood. The lens is made in China so I suspect that a lens hood (even a plastic one would do) would add no more than a dollar or two to the production cost.

For me this is my go to for street photography. Using it on my Pen F I get less attention from security and other noseys, so much better than my 810 on that score.Looks like you are using an old film camera, great results and while it is not as good as the 810, I get pictures that I could not take with a big camera. Overall if you have micro 4/3 this is a great lens for the money. Shame it has no hood but I have never actually found that to be a problem. Recommended.

This 17mm f1.8 lens is perfect for street photography or landscapes, being the equivalent of a 34-35mm lens. Very sharp, fast and clear. It took a while to be delivered, but with COVID-19 issues in place, that was expected. The packaging could be better, but at least it arrived safely and was not broken. Iâd buy from BecexTech again.
