Extraordinary capability in a tiny package
I own an OM System OM-1 and an Olympus E-M1 Mk 3, along with a PEN E-P7. I’ve been a four-thirds and micro four-thirds shooter for almost 16 years. My wife and I went to Charleston, SC over the holidays to visit her daughter and son-in-law. I brought along the OM-1 and the E-P7. I shot nearly everything with the E-P7.I did so because it’s much easier to manage a smaller camera when you’re out and about with family and a toddler. I love the E-P7, but there were times when I wished I had an electronic viewfinder.I decided that the OM-5 might offer a “best of both worlds” solution. It’s very light, yet packs all of the features of the E-M1 Mk3, minus the custom settings on the mode dial. Handheld high-resolution is marvelous, as is Live ND (neutral density). The IBIS everything it’s been praised for.As a smaller body, I probably wouldn’t put anything bigger than the 12-100mm/f4 on it, and that’s perhaps pushing it a bit. But put the 14-150mm/f4-5.6 zoom on it, and you have a very versatile, capable little camera you can carry on a sling all day, hardly knowing it’s there. With a small prime or compact zoom, a wrist strap is sufficient. If you wish to step-up to bigger lenses like the 40-150/f2.8, or something like the 100-400mm zoom, you’ll want to add the grip. But for a compact travel camera for anything other than a safari, it’s a remarkable camera. Worth every penny.

Great camera and system
After owning this camera for six months I have decided to update my review. This is the best camera I have ever used. Why? It gives better detail and sharpness than any other system even with inexpensive kit lenses. It is light, has a higher level of advancements, and is simply a more enjoyable photo experience than other camera systems. Focus is fast and the 2x form factor for lenses is awesome.Over the years I have purchased and used a lot of cameras both DSLR and mirrorless. I have used both full frame and aps-c. I have used Nikon, Canon, and Fujifilm. The om-5 is better. I imagine it can only be outperformed by the higher priced Om-1.Many people will not give this system a chance because they think micro four thirds can’t possibly be as good as aps-c or full frame. Without trying it out many reviewers just pass over this format. They are missing out. I recommend you do what I did – buy a used Olympus and see for yourself. Once I saw the sharpness and detail I was sold.

Much Better Than Expected
I currently own other cameras (full frame Sony and Canon), but I was looking for a small, well-built camera for travel. I have owned other micro four thirds cameras in the past (mostly Panasonic), but never really liked they way details were smeared. This camera is very different and way better than any micro four thirds camera I have ever used before! The AF tracking is very good (more accurate than my Canon R6II, almost as good as my Sony A7c). The detail capture and IQ are incredible! Battery life is very good as well.Overall I’m very impressed with this camera and would highly recommend it.

Unique in its category
This is a fantastic camera : it is small, light and at the same time solid. It does all what you need in small package . 4/3 sensor is much better than 1″ sensor. As compared to my apsc and ff cameras , although the richness of the pictures is less and needs some post processing, the easiness and smallness of this camera are such that i take it everywhere!

Traveler’s Tool
The OM-5 was released Fall 2022 with mixed reviews. Disappointed experts felt that this product was a missed opportunity for OM Digital Solutions to unleash itself as a new and innovative company because the OM-5 was an incremental improvement to the EM-5 Mark III. The body is identical to the EM-5 Mark III, no inclusion of the improved menu system from the OM-1, carryover of the older sensor and no adoption of USB-C, etc. Despite these valid points and after months of research, I purchased the OM-5 because it is one of few cameras designed for travel and adventure. My requirements for small, lightweight, and weather sealing narrowed the choices to Sony, Fuji Film and OM Systems. Once you factor in the size and weight of the lens, the OM-5 remained small, lightweight, and weather sealed. There is no perfect camera but the OM-5 met my requirements for a travelerâs tool.

Excellent camera
Excellent camera for vacations and general photography. Sharpness and image quality is very good. Image stabilization is outstanding. I can hand hold 1/2 second exposures and get a sharp image. Much more comfortable to carry around than my full-frame camera. I highly recommend this camera.

camera takes nice photos only if you avoid auto iso
I had to return the camera due to it freezing and viewfinder going black and requiring it to be turned off and on to reset. OM basically confirmed that auto iso was the problem. I shoot about 90% of my photos using auto iso. Even in broad daylight when iso was below 1000, suddenly iso6400 would flash and the screen would go black. Really too bad, because I liked the quality of the photos and the lightweight of the camera. Tracking AF works very well..better than my full frame Sony.

Highly underrated camera
Truly an all-weather, lightweight stills camera with great performance. Of note: the improved baseplate remains inadequately strong for heavier telephoto lenses. Otherwise itâs a terrific product and punches above its weight. You should get one!
